IT is clear that we all have a duty to welcome refugees who are at present dying in their thousands in their attempts to flee to Europe from war and persecution in the Middle East.
Might I suggest that here in Bolton the best practical action we can take is to put pressure on the Council to agree to accept a quota of refugees and to encourage other councils in the Greater Manchester to do the same? To put this into effect, it will be necessary to form an ad hoc refugees committee ( preferably elected by a public meeting ) to seek to obtain the widest possible support from Bolton citizens and organisations
Would those citizens and organisations who support my proposal, please indicate their support through the letter columns of the Bolton News? It is to be hoped that Bolton churches and mosques will undertake to play a major role.
