I WAS so thrilled to read in the Bolton News about the Palais De Dance.

It was a lovely place where people could go and get a cup of tea or coffee and have a dance. Everybody knew about the Bolton Palais.

I always loved dancing from leaving school. It used to cost 2 shillings and 6 pence, that was all my spending money but it was worth it. I learned to dance at Davies in Bank Street in 1942 when I left school at the age of 14. The war was still on and Mr Davies was called up and the dance school had to close, which was sad.

I can’t dance anymore as I had a stroke at Christmas 2014 and unsteady on my feet, and I am 87, which doesn’t help. I would love to be able to dance again, but those were happy days at the Palais and the memories still live on.

It would be nice if someone would open it up as a dance hall. There is nothing for the over 50s to do in Bolton, (apart from bingo) and the clubs are for the younger people. I am sure a lot of people would take up ballroom dancing again if there was somewhere to go.
