I WWANT to say what a brilliant job Bolton & District Civic Trust has done with the concept for the area of Cheadle Square and Moor Lane regeneration and redevelopment.

Not only does it provide much needed green space adjacent to the town centre but they have created something that can be utilised for a variety of purposes to enhance the community, it is also innovative and enhances the buildings that are already in the vicinity whilst still keeping the student village part of the town.

Having recently read the leaflet prepared by the Civic Trust regarding this development, details of which can also be found on the Trust's website, I totally support what they are trying to do for the town and can only encourage more Bolton residents to get behind this concept.

In comparison I find the Council/PSP vision is drab and lacking any modern thinking or innovation. It is is reminiscent of the concrete jungles of decades ago. The government are encouraging new towns or developments to be like 'garden towns' with plenty of green spaces, trees etc which of course will improve air quality but will also enhance the environment for people to enjoy. Why does the council and its partner's vision seem so out of place in this day and age?

Bolton Council/Partners/Planning please take note of the expertise and innovation you have on your doorstep and wake up to the future possibilities to build a better town for residents, businesses and which students will want to come to, which will also attract more tourism.
