NO-ONE does antiquated rules quite like the British.
Cambridge University law academic Christopher Sargeant has found 10 of the most unusual offences still applying.
These include the 1313 rule that MPs can’t wear armour in Parliament and one from 1847 banning beating a carpet, rug or mat (except doormats) before 8am.
I always loved the fact that it’s illegal to sell cooked tripe on a Sunday, not raw just cooked.
And my favourite is the old Bolton rule that you can’t drive your sheep over Orlando Bridge.
I’m not sure it’s been repealed – but I’ve stopped doing it now anyway.
