IT is really to be hoped that M&S in Deansgate will not be one of their stores to be closing.
Now that BHS, Beales and Prestons have all decided to close, it would be a very sad prospect for shoppers to continue to come to Bolton town centre, and with parking charges also putting people off.
With the central bus station being moved out to the train station, it means that for those without cars who are travelling by bus will have a longer walk than ever to reach the new shops which are opening in the Market Place.
Councils should make use of professional town planners when making these extremely costly decisions, rather than spending money on unnecessary things like the 'welcome' bridge on Newport Street, which is on a one-way street going out of the town.
