I AM constantly amazed by the number of people who don’t have a breakfast.
Surely it’s the best way to kickstart your body and brain?
Sadly, in 2016, because of poverty or indifference, many Bolton children don’t go to school with the undoubted benefits of a decent breakfast inside them.
So it’s reassuring that Bolton Council is spending £200,000 to ensure that as many as possible get this healthy start.
The Council has received 27 applications from primary schools wanting to either start a new breakfast club or expand an existing one.
And it has decided to give each one a minimum of £2,500 as part of its plans to tackle child poverty and poor health.
It’s good news that the problem is addressed in a town where the level of child poverty is worse than the national average.
We all need that first fuel – and children need it most.
