WHAT a pity Bolton’s appetite for supporting the Race for Life has waned so much there won’t be one in 2017.
Since it began 14 years ago, the annual Leverhulme Park event has attracted hundreds of female runners and walkers fundraising for Cancer Research UK.
It became not only a fundraising social occasion but a moving tribute to those who’d died from cancer. I well remember one year being in tears reading the pinned sign on one girl stating “For my Dad who died last night.”
We may have moved on from Race for Life, but many positive memories remain.
