IT is reported that a labour party member, Mr Quick, is trying to prevent a conference of their potential close rival Ukip from being held at Burden Leisure/Macron venue. I urge that this 'head in the sand' measure be ignored of the following grounds:
Labour should not show a fear of Ukip, listen to what they say, face up to them and publish counter arguments to any part of their manifesto that you disagree with.
Ukip is a recognised, legally formed entity and therefore should not be excluded from using appropriate venues.
Our nation believes in free speech — keep it that way.
Burnden Leisure needs the income that conferences generate — be grateful and take the money. Be happy that we can attract profile gatherings like this.
