I LIVE in sheltered housing. I am sitting here with an elderly neighbour, it is after midnight and we are waiting for a paramedic/ambulance.
This lady looks weary; she has been to hospital twice over the last week, she was put on a drip, rehydrated and discharged home.
Watching Panorama recently about the NHS when an administrator was on the wards asking some patients (who were in beds) to pay, their reply was sorry I can’t pay … but the treatment had been delivered already.
When is someone going to wake up, make a firm decision about health tourists and end this chaos?
Social care and care homes no longer exist as we knew them, the elderly get targeted for bed blocking “not our fault”. Where do we go for care?
Finally, I would like to take issue with our pensions being referred to as a benefit – no it isn’t! We paid into the system for 40 years in the form of insurance and income tax, we worked hard all our lives and deserve to be cared for in old age in a decent, safe and caring environment. Will someone wake up and put their own first?
