THERE is, as always, an entertaining blend of new programmes and re-runs of old favourites on TV this Christmas.

But this really is a time of year for trusted formulas and, like the Two Ronnies, you don’t get better comedy than French and Saunders.

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders have always had an amazing double act – possibly something we forget since Dawn became The Vicar of Dibley and Jennifer steeped herself in the terrible Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous.

It has been 10 years since they had their extremely popular TV show French and Saunders which highlighted their talents so well, especially during the late ‘80s and ‘90s.

Now, they are back with a Christmas show called 300 Years of French and Saunders which sounds like it will be a festive telly highlight. Expect the usual blend of clever sketches and quirky ideas, including their own take on the Poldark series and a glorious lampoon of Gogglebox.

It’s on late on Christmas Day and should round off the festivities nicely.
