IT’S heartening news for the over 60s that perennial pop star Lulu is returning to the West End stage for the first time in 33 years.

The 69 year-old will take over the role of Broadway battleaxe Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street from Sheena Easton after originally turning down the role. A year ago, she started acting lessons and appears delighted to face this new challenge.

The diminutive Scottish singer first shot to fame in 1964 with hit record Shout and has consistently been high-profile and successful. She is internationally known both for film song hits and winning the Eurovision Song Contest.

She has had her own TV show, collaborated with other singers on hit records and generally proved an inspiration for all as she’s gone into her 60s.

She keeps fit and healthy and told a national newspaper that age doesn’t worry her as she’s “blessed with having a lot of energy.” She’s also got a lot of talent and it’s just great to see her tackling musical theatre.
