WHAT do you want from your Bolton News? What can we do more of? Less of?

In short, if you were the editor, what would you do?

I'm asking, not because I don't have a clue (although you might disagree), but because I care.

My name is Karl Holbrook and last week, I took over as editor of this wonderful newspaper . . . and I've hardly slept since.

Hopefully you've already noticed a few changes. And hopefully you've liked them.

In the paper we've introduced a new two-page special report which will run in every edition looking at the big story of the day in a comprehensive way.

In just a week, we've looked in-depth at the rebranding of the Macron stadium, delved into the on-again-off-again hosepipe ban, looked into the controversial Hulton Park Ryder Cup golf plans, and much more.

Online we've published more local stories than ever and allowed new technology to tell us what stories you want more of.

We've also started to post the occasional regional and national story on our Facebook page.

These will not replace our local coverage, but will support it, flagging up the amazing stories from around our sister newsrooms up and down the country.

Over the coming weeks and months there will be lots more changes, too. Expect a new look. Expect more campaigns and investigations.

Expect a different tone. Expect more lifestyle and community content, particularly at weekends.

This newspaper has been a flag bearer for Bolton for more than 150 years.

That legacy weighs heavily on me and I will treat it with the huge respect it deserves.

But that doesn't mean we need to stand still.

To improve, we need your help.

Journalists get a bad rap. And so do local papers.

'They don't know about this', 'they got this wrong,’ ‘they haven't reported on that.'

Sadly, we don't have a direct line to everything that happens (How great would that be?).

We need your help. Tell us what you want us to tackle and you've got my word we will do our best.

I can't promise you we'll get everything right all of the time.

But I can promise we will fight tooth and nail for Bolton.

I've only been here for a few days, but already I am inspired by the fierce pride people clearly have for Bolton.

That pride and passion is shared around The Bolton News newsroom.

We will fight for this community flagging up as best we can all the excellent things going on here and the amazing people that make it home.

We will hold power to account, but we won't idly criticise for the sake of it.

We will campaign for Bolton and for the issues that matter to you.

My door (and my inbox, at least) is always open. I want to hear from you. Tell me when you think we've got it wrong. But tell me what when we've got it right, too.

Let's have an honest conversation and we can be the newspaper you deserve.

You can email me anytime on karl.holbrook@newsquest.co.uk or tweet me @karldholbrook.

Better still, pop in for a brew. You can bring the biscuits!
