MAY I reply regarding the mention of the Bolton Labour Group Council motion in 2015 on hardship in Bolton referred to by Ron Shambley (Letters August 24).

The Labour motion raised matters of hardship and poverty in the borough and was at a time when the Tory government was set on vastly reducing tax credits for lower-income families in the UK.

The UN provides a service for towns and cities of countries to report social and economic concerns to.

It is because I am a Labour councillor I constructed that motion on hardship and the Tory plans and actions worsening lower incomes.

The UN service has been used by a number of towns and cities in Western Europe. My focus on hardship and inequality in this borough alone — guilty as charged.
