I WOULD like to thank Karen Morton for the letter which raised awareness of the national campaign - Every Disabled Child Matters ("Show support for disabled children", Tuesday, April 8). This is a campaign to ensure the rights and justice for disabled children.
It was noted in her letter that the council had not yet signed up to the objectives of the campaign. However, I would like to inform your readers that the issue has been raised with officers, and the Labour group is committed to ensuring that this council meets its obligations. A Labour council will ensure we sign up to this charter and do everything we can to meet our obligations.
I would also like to thank the campaign for raising awareness of the problems families with disabled children face.
In addition to this, I am extremely pleased they are supporting the End Child Poverty Campaign, which is one of the key priorities of the Labour Government and, under Labour, will remain one of the key priorities of the council.
Cllr Linda Thomas Executive member for children's services
