The Middlebrook Tesco extension should be rejected.

Supermarkets are not a universal good.

Problems with them include the fact that they create to much packaging, creating pollution from plastic and plastic bags and cause excess "food miles" by using supermarket lorries to ferry goods up and down the country. Buying loca produce is best.

Supermarkets also encourage car travel, pollution, and congestion; encourage over consumption with their two-for-one offers, bulk buying and obesity.

Supermarkets also suck the life out of town centres They eventually reduce choice (read "Tescopoly" to see how giant supermarkets operate) and don't create extra jobs.

Many employees are on the minimum wage, which is topped up with tax credits, while Tesco records enormous profits.

Surely this new planning application can be rejected?

Its aim is "to increase the range of goods on offer" - but the range of goods was specifically limited in the original planning consent.

A Tesco representative said the proposal is not anticipated to create significant new customer demand. So then, why bother extending?
