HERMES Real Estate, London, on behalf of Primark, spells out the reasons for the firm's proposed expansion in Bolton. Few would dispute that Primark needs Bolton - and that Bolton needs Primark. But not at any cost!
I attended the relevant planning meeting, and agreed with the consensus of opinion that while the general idea was good, closing the Bradshawgate entrance/exit definitely was not, and the application was therefore deferred.
Bolton shoppers see this requirement as a retrograde step, and they surely have a strong voice in the future of our town's development, to which any applicant should listen.
If Hermes insist on intransigence then a compromise is available - expand with a clear Bradshawgate to main Crompton Place "right of passage" for the general public.
