I just could not believe what I was reading when I read the letter in The Bolton News from Mrs S Booth about respect for the police and the officer who parked in a supermarket bay for a mum and toddler (April 23).

Yes, I agree that the police have a lot to deal with, although they did nothing when my house was broken into several times.

But how does this mean it is acceptable for the officer to use a parking space designed for mothers and toddler?

Maybe he had been working all night - but what about some poor mum with a toddler who probably had no sleep and is completely shattered?

It would have taken just one minute extra for that policeman to park in an ordinary parking space?

Surely that is not too much to ask of even a police officer - after all, he or she is checking on people who break the law every day, so he or she must be aware of what he is doing more than most people.

If the officer has such little regard for the law, what a great example he or she is showing.

Good on the person who took the photograph.

I hope the policeman concerned was extremely embarrassed over this selfishness. As the reader pointed out originally,, was a Sunday morning and therefore there were loads of parking spaces.

The police probably do a good job, but in no way does this mean they are above the law.

As regards them working all Saturday night, well no-one makes these people choose this career.

Our country is in an absolute mess at the moment. No one seems to have any respect anymore and, if we tackle the smaller issues first, hopefully we can then address the bigger problems.

For a start could thoughtless people please keep out of the parent and toddler spaces (and yes I have amended it to parent and toddler because I am sure dads take their kids shopping sometimes) - and that includes policemen.
