COUNCILLOR Peel should be congratulated on his "quick" response or should that be constructive spin to the very many letters of complaints with regards to First bus services in Bolton.

But all the letters have two things in common a complete lack of any sensibility by First, and questions over GMPTE's role in knowing what commuters actually want.

First has destroyed the bus network in this wonderful town. Most of its services are now geared to transport people from Bolton to Farnworth then on to Manchester via either Pendlebury or Walkden.

Westhoughton no longer has a direct bus link to Manchester, so instead of taking 50 minutes to an hour it now takes almost two hours to get from Westhoughton to Manchester by bus during peak periods.

Deane/Daubhill/Derby had four buses an hour to Manchester, they now have none. Instead, passengers either have to change at Walkden, where the buses will already be full, or at Bolton either way adding travelling time.

People have lost trust in the PTE as well as First, and now assume that the two are actually working together to make public transport a thing of the past!

Why don't the management and Cllr Peel use public transport regularly, say for a month?

The people of this town have had enough of bad public transport and need to be treated better.
