I AGREE with most of Sam Allardyce's comments about the Government needing to support all types of sports, from school level upwards ("Big Sam hits out at our lazy life", Bolton Evening News, Saturday, July 29), but I also feel that clubs like Bolton Wanderers need to make more of an effort in nurturing its own local talent.

All Sam needs to do is go around the numerous football pitches on Saturday and Sunday to see teams of enthusiastic and energetic children playing football in the various leagues that operate in this area alone.

My son plays for two football teams on Saturday and Sunday. He is 13, and has played for Farnworth Boys since he was six and now also plays for Stoneclough Rangers I know that there are hundreds like him in this area alone, all of whom just love the sport and would be grateful for a chance to be picked for a football academy.

Why doesn't Sam and other managers look at what is on their own doorsteps and nurture more local talent, instead of the English football leagues being turned into a melting pot of European footballers?
