WE are writing to urge people in Bolton, especially our three MPs, to add their names to the call for an immediate ceasefire in the conflict in Lebanon.

The massacre of 60 women and children at Qana this weekend brings echoes of the conflict 10 years ago when Israel bombed a UN compound in the same village, killing 100 civilians who had fled there to avoid the fighting. It also brings to 700 the number of Lebanese civilians killed by the Israelis in that small country in just two weeks.

Once again Prime Minister Blair has isolated and humiliated Britain on the International stage by standing alone with President Bush in flouting the rule of International Law and refusing to call for an immediate ceasefire.

We are sure that the majority of British people are dismayed at Blair's indifference to the plight of the Lebanese. The decent people of Bolton can add their names in support of the call of the UN Secretary General, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Oxfam, and others, for an immediate ceasefire by going to the website: www.stopwar.org.uk/lebanon/sign.php Neil McAlister for Bolton RESPECT Party, Anan Quzmar University of Bolton Palestinian Society
