AS one who pressed for a circular bus route, taking in Tonge Moor Road and Blackburn Road, to be put into service, I was dismayed to discover this had been axed, causing much inconvenience to the travelling public.

After intensive lobbying by residents, pupils and Cllr Sufrana Ismail, these buses have not (contrary to the report of July 29) been restored, but the number 563 is running as a substitute.

Michael Renshaw of GMPTE is quoted as saying "following discussions with ARRIVA, we are pleased to have responded to passengers' concerns and re-routed the 563 bus service".

John Rimmer, ARRIVA National Director for the North West, says: "I can confirm that we have re-routed our 563 service to cover the area between Bromley Cross and Blackburn Road, which was previously serviced by our 538/539 service. Evening services also follow the same route."

So problem solved everything sorted?

Well no!

In fact, the 563 which ran along Tonge Moor Road up to Edgworth is now denied to previous passengers, a classic case of "robbing Peter to pay Paul"?

Please, ARRIVA, bring back the 538/539, and restore the 563 Edgworth bus to the Tonge Moor route.
