ON Saturday morning I drove down Bradford Street, up Bridgeman Street and along Trinity Street. What a mess!

The traffic was forced into one lane by the dreaded cones. Needless to say, a bottleneck ensued.

On approaching the junction at Manchester Road, all the traffic lights were out, resulting in chaos among the traffic. Eventually, on getting through all of this, I found the next set of lights were out.

Throughout the whole length of highway, there was not a workman to be seen. Why, oh why, is this job taking so long to complete? Why was it not made a term of contract that the work should be completed by a certain date to cause a minimum of chaos to the driving public? One would have thought that a job as big as this should have warranted working 24/7, and not 9-5, Monday to Friday.

Penalty clauses should have been introduced when whoever in the council first looked about for a firm to do the job. Surely this isn't too much to ask?

One can imagine the cost of this project to the weary public.

Please, Bolton Metro, can you not plan better than this?
