MARK Wolstenholme and friends are wondering where Pikes Lane used to be in Deane Road (October 29).
When I went to Pikes Lane Junior School, which was then situated on Deane Road, one teacher by the name of Mrs Graham told us that the school got its name from a track which was built by the Romans leading from there to the Pike, which we know is off Georges Lane, Horwich.
Also, I remember her saying that Bolton was so called because the town is a bowl shape with moors all around.
With reference to the football team Bolton Wanderers, initially called Christ Church team. The origins of this has been printed in the paper.
There is no church now in Deane Road, but on the site are some gardens known as Christ Church gardens.
I also understand that a school was in existence there, because my father told me he was educated at Christ Church School.
