RESPONDING to the letter “Name and address supplied” (December 6), to say Paul Cook is a snob is unjust.
You could say that about anyone who owns their own houses. I for one own mine.
I don’t know the reason Brian Derbyshire did not want to by one, as he is around my age, but I can tell you for a fact in the 60s when I married, a lot of people were buying houses.
ou could walk out of one job and into another the same day or week.
As a young child living in London I had to live in the high-rise flats and also one council house.
I can remember thinking to myself, I would get married and buy a house, which I did. I had to make sacrifices to do so.
My ex worked overtime and I worked inbetween having five children. Plus not going out every night in the pubs and clubs.
I believed council houses were for the genuine people. My and my ex were only working class.
