IS this the best you can do?
After slipping and sliding on our roads and pavements for the second winter running, I ask Bolton Borough Council is this the best you can do?
I believe a committee was set up last year as a result of the winter of 2009-10 to put a plan in motion to combat such conditions should they occur again.
What happened? Did I read correctly the committee did not meet. Is this right?
People didn’t get to work, shops lost money, no footfall, we had an epidemic of broken limbs, the Royal Bolton Hospital A&E was overrun at what cost to our health service.
But my comments are made as a pedestrian with regard to our pavements. Many friends I know needed treatment for ribs, arms and legs broken as a result of falling on our lethal footpaths, just not fit for purpose.
I was one of the lucky ones, falling twice, the second time hitting the pavement cutting my eyebrow, bruising my eye and cheek bone, bruising my arm and leg, and breaking my glasses and watchstrap. I stress, I was one of the lucky ones. It could have been much worse if I had been in a frail condition.
Next year if we have a similar winter as the experts predict, it could become the new reality game show as we slip and slide about trying to get from A to B.
