AS an international greyhound protection organisation, we were dismayed to read the news that the “revamp” of Westhoughton greyhound track has begun, (“Dog Track is Under Starters Orders For a Major Revamp”).
Despite the wonderful efforts of greyhound rescues, latest research shows that more than 10,000 greyhounds, bred for the British racing industry, are put to death every year, after failing to make the grade as racers, or when their “careers” on the tracks come to an end.
That is why the last thing we want to see is the reopening of another greyhound track and why we are calling on the public not to attend dog tracks or bet on greyhound racing, so that this appalling death-industry fades away through lack of financial support.
