In reply Mr Magurk (May 24) who queried the number of residents in Bromley Cross.
The petition of 4,000 signatures was an excellent proportional response from a population of 13,411 (2001 census).
Whilst the future use and siting of libraries is being discussed by council and the people of Bolton, I question the feasibility of libraries in schools, particularly as many of them are now gated and secured.
The link to education and learning is important, but libraries now offer a wide range of activities to many different sections of the community, including companionship and fun.
I would urge people to join their local library. A positive step toward safeguarding these vital institutions for present and future generations is to create a demand for them.
