LOCAL Atherleigh Councillor Susan Loudon, along with her Labour Colleagues, supported the proposals for the selection criteria at Fred Longworth’s Academy for 2012/13, as part of their ill fated Building Schools for the Future project which included a post code lottery.

That totally unfair selection criteria which only allows children to be considered from Tyldesley, Astley, Mosley Common, and those in Atherton whose postcode starts M46 9.

This means that families who even live in the same street as Councillor Loudon are not able to apply for places at Fred Longworth’s Academy having post codes M46 0, despite living nearer to the school than many in post code M46 9.

The selection criteria was imposed on Fred Longworth’s Academy despite objections from the governing body. Next year the governors of the academy will be free to set their own admissions policy for 2013/14, which I understand will do away with post codes being part of the criteria.

It’s time people realised that as long as they keep on electing Labour councillors, the aspirations of Atherton people will never be achieved. Just look at the Labour councillors’ record, they voted against an Atherton Town Council, they voted to close Hesketh Fletcher High School, they closed the baths, they sold off the Formby Hall, they supported the closure of the library, and are now trying their best to ensure that every obstacle possible is put in the way of a Free High School in Atherton.

They need to be taught a lesson by the people of Atherton and Atherleigh in May 2012, when they have their chance to elect new councillors who will represent their views, and not just those of Lord Peter Smith.
