I WOULD like to express my dismay at the lack of support from local MPs in relation to the Park Cakes Bolton/Oldham dispute.

The terms and conditions of hundreds of workers, many with over twenty years service are under threat from company executives, who are bypassing new legislation designed to protect vulnerable workers.

Eventually, those on the new minimum contracts will become the majority at the two bakeries as existing employees leave/retire. Once that happens, you can bet your bottom dollar that the company will try everything possible to phase out the original contracts thus eroding terms and conditions.

Let’s not also forget that the company directors have allowed themselves a 10.62 per cent increase in pay and shared out £552,000 in bonuses. It’s appalling that this is being allowed to happen and even more appalling that as of writing this, our local MPs have been so silent about it. There is a Parliamentary Early Day Motion (2179) condemning the actions of Park Cakes and there isn’t one MP from the North West that has signed it yet.

It certainly begs the question; who are you representing?
