OVER the next few weeks more than one million members of Public Service Trade union, Unison will receive ballot forms at home asking them to vote on possible strike action over the future of their pensions.

The Government is asking public sector workers to work years longer, pay twice as much in contributions and receive a lot less in retirement. This is nothing to do with problems with pension funds, as they are in good financial shape.

The Local Government Pension Scheme for example, has a healthy £150 billion in assets.

The Government wants the money from our pensions to pay off the deficit and the problems caused by the greed of the banks, not public service workers.

I urge every Unison member to complete and return their ballot form voting YES for action. For those that say they can’t afford to strike, I say you can’t afford not to, to protect your pension.
