IT seems as if members of organisations such as UNISON seem to have slept through a generation of Labour governance.

In a recent paid advertisement featured in this newspaper, UNISON (Bolton branch) wrote: “together we can fight the cuts”

Where was this so called responsible organisation when the previous Labour government, between 1997 and 2010, were ruining our country? One can only assume that it was sleepwalking and and had been gagged. Why were no meetings, protests and demonstrations, organised entitled; together we can fight Labour’s spending or together we can fight Labour’s borrowing or together we can fight against the Labour government selling our gold reserves or together we can fight Blair/Brown’s Political spin or together we can fight Labour’s injustices?

I feel proud to have worked for Bolton Council for nearly a decade and I feel even greater pride in not having joined a selfish and selfcentred organisation such as UNISON that promotes its own insular interests at the cost of doing what is best for the town and the country as a whole.

The financial crisis that we are suffering from is clearly not the making of the present government but rather it is a legacy of mismanagemen that has become the single largest legacy that the Labour government has gifted to us.

Labour does not represent the decent working class, the premise upon which the Labour movement claims to have been formed.

I believe that anyone who attends the local UNISON protest or any of its other demonstrations can be described as having ulterior motives or at the best being naive and are not acting in our best interests.

I would advise people who are thinking of attending to not do so but rather they should spend there time supporting organisations that have genuine solutions and ideas on how we can come through the crippling legacy that labour has left us.

It is a time for us to remain calm and most definitely carry on.
