SO we are to have another makeover of Ashburner Street market. Let's hope it can be achieved quickly and without the disturbance and inconvenience to traders of the earlier works.

The problem for the market has always been the inadequate parking for traders and customers.

Yes, the Sainsburys car park was valued for the dual shopping facility, but of course Sainsburys did not employ traffic wardens issuing tickets for the slightest infringement. What a mockery it is to allow traffic wardens on to the market's car park.

Yes, the market should be improved and have an accompanied walkway, but it needs better parking facilities. As I have suggested in the past, the bus station should remain but we should construct two decks of parking over it, thus providing a roof with a bridge, and lift access to the market. Ground space should provide better parking for traders.

The idea of a bus/rail interchange in Newport Street and the cost of moving the market is unnecessary and unrealistic.

Where is the space, without extensive demolition, and what would be the cost to all parties involved?
