TODAY’S picture shows Rothwell Street wash house in Bolton back in 1937.
Youngsters growing up today will never have known a time when every home did not have a washing machine but for most Bolton households in the 1930s it was a reality.
It meant a trip to the wash house once a week to get the family’s clothing and bedding washed as can be seen here in our photograph.
