VISITORS to Thornleigh Salesian College are in for a lot of laughs when iconic comedian Jimmy Cricket performs for charity.

For the school in Sharples is holding a night full of comedy in the hope of raising much needed funds for the aid agency CAFOD.

Pupils, parents and members of the local community are invited to the evening of comedy fundraiser tomorrow.

Starting at 7:30pm, the night will include performances from 1980s comedy icon Jimmy Cricket and comedian Steve Royle from BBC Radio Lancashire and Phoenix Nights.

The night will be hosted by Father Frankie Mulgrew, a priest in the Salford diocese who say organisers may have a few jokes of his own.

A spokesman for the school said: “It certainly will be an evening to remember, with all proceeds raised to be divided between CAFOD and the school’s Tanzania Project.”

Thornleigh Salesian College is a long-standing supporter of CAFOD which works in over 40 countries, fighting poverty and injustice.

The money raised by Thornleigh college will mean that CAFOD’s partners will be able to continue to support projects around the world.

CAFOD’s representative in Bolton, Stephen Burrowes, said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the pupils, parents, and everyone who has supported the comedy show so far, which we’re sure will be a great success. It is due to their continued support that our partners will be able to continue to empower and transform communities around the world.”

Tickets are £8/ £5 for concessions and can be purchased from Thornleigh Salesians College on 01204 301 351.
