The UK government has appointed the British Film Institute to administer the cultural test for games tax relief.

The expanded certification unit will act as the first point of contact for developers applying to qualify their game under the cultural test.

The BFI is also looking to hire two analysts to assess applications under the games cultural test and provide its recommendations to the DCMS.

Certification analysts will be required to ensure compliance under upcoming government legislation for games tax relief, and also provide advice and guidance to developers looking to take advantage of the scheme.

Requirements for the roles include a University degree or relevant industry experience and also an awareness of the tax relief process and what it means to the game industry.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said: “Administering the cultural test for Games Tax Relief is a vital role.

"The BFI’s new certification analysts for the video games cultural test will, amongst other things, need to be experts on the video games industry. TIGA will be working closely with the BFI to ensure that the recruitment of its analysts is successful.

"The BFI has a track record in managing the film certification process and we hope that their management of the video games cultural test will be as equally successful."
