FACING Hawkshaw Church, turn left and walk along the pavement in the direction of Ramsbottom.

Follow the main road for about a third of a mile, passing a new housing development on the right, and when the road bends left join the signed footpath on the right which leads down a farm track.

Keep to the farm track which bends right, then left, between the houses at Croichley Fold. Pass between the houses then go through the field gate facing you on the left.

Turn immediately right and follow the right field edge under electricity pylons. Pass through another stile/gate and continue along the fence line, when the fence turns right, just continue straight ahead across the field towards the houses at Holly Mount. Cross a stile/gate on the left in the field corner next to the houses.

Go straight ahead along the driveway between the houses then turn right to follow the driveway passing the church on the right and Holly Mount School on the left.

Follow the drive, which has a path beside it on the left, downhill passing a golf course on the left. At the bottom of the hill, before the main road is reached, turn right through a small car parking area and cross a footbridge over a stream.

Follow the tarmac path uphill, forking right when it splits into two, and the winding path climbs quite steeply uphill overlooking the stream on the right. At the very top of the hill is a bench for a breather with a good view back across the valley towards Holcombe Moor. Go through the gate at the top of the hill and turn right along the path that leads to Turton Road (B6213).

Turn right along the main road for a short distance then cross over with care and join the first signed footpath on the left hand side (next to house number 143).

Follow the path between gardens uphill until it meets a crossroads of lanes. Turn right along the lane, Cann Street, the old coach road to Tottington.

This passes an old well on the left last used to draw water in the drought of 1976. Go straight ahead at the next track crossroads, the track runs parallel to the B road over to the right and soon drops downhill to meet it.

Do not join the main road yet, but leave it immediately on the left following the asphalt drive uphill past the front of a house to a wall gap.

Continue straight ahead between the wall and fence, past cottages on the left to go through a gate. Continue straight ahead along the field edge path leading to the drive to Buckley Close Farm. Turn right along the drive and join the B road.

Cross over it with care and turn left following the pavement for nearly quarter-of-a-mile until houses are reached on the right next to a footpath signpost.

Turn right along this path (next to house number 320) and cross a stile. The path follows a field edge with a good view over the Two Brooks Valley and crosses another stile and passes between fishing ponds.

The path then zigzags left then right to reach the houses straight ahead down the hillside below. Turn left after the houses and continue straight ahead to cross a bridge over the brook and pass through a gate/stile.

After the gate, enter a pasture at a junction of field paths. Turn left and walk in the opposite direction to the ladder stile on the right. Cross another stile and continue straight ahead on a path through woodland. Keep to the path which forks slightly right at a drain cover.

This passes a tennis court on the right and a reservoir on the left. Keep going straight ahead and it meets the A676 through Hawkshaw village.

Turn right past the pub to reach the church on the right.
