A SERVICE of thanksgiving and dedication of a new peal board was held at Bolton Parish Church.

A full three-hour peal of the bells rang out across the town centre from the church, in Silverwell Street, on Friday evening.

The peal board was created to record the names of the people involved in a bell ringing event to commemorate the Queen‘s Diamond Jubilee Service, held in February 2012.

On that day, local ringers rang a peal before the service, supported by the church’s own ringers, under tower captain Alan Forrester.

Cllr John Walsh said: “It was a wonderful event. It was a further commemoration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

“There were 24 bell ringers in total who rang for three hours and four minutes.”

The board was displayed at the service before being taken up the tower and mounted in the ringing room.
