TRANSPORT bosses in Greater Manchester say pupils returning to school will not be hit by the decision to ban two bus operators from the roads.

GM Buses and UK North, which operate 17 schools services between them, were taken off the road before Christmas amid safety fears about drivers. A decision on their future has been deferred until later this month.

Replacement buses to schools have been laid on by the passenger transport authority.

The firms' buses remain off the road while their future is decided by North West Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell on Tuesday.

Martin Pilling, aged 27, from Salford, died after he was struck by a bus in November.
