A DISCARDED cigarette set light to a beer towel at a home in The Haulgh.
Firefighters from Bolton Central Fire Station called to the home in Kirkwall Drive at 7.45pm said a pensioner had been using the towel as a cover for the arm of a chair.
They stopped the fire from spreading and the man was unharmed.
