Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo today escaped uninjured after his sportscar hit a roadside barrier, sources said.
The Portuguese international’s Ferrari 599 GTB was involved in the collision in a tunnel near Manchester Airport at about 10.20am.
Ronaldo was able to get out of the vehicle himself and was spoken to by police at the scene.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said no-one was injured in the incident.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “At about 10.20am police were called to the A538 Wilmslow Road near to Manchester Airport following reports of a road traffic collision.
”Officers attended and discovered a Ferrari had collided with a barrier.
”No one is believed to have been injured.
”Inquiries are continuing.”
According to reports, the 23-year-old’s vehicle was written off in the accident.
A further statement from the police said: "Police Constable Nigel Snell, from the Road Policing Unit, said: "Given the damage to the car it is fortunate the driver was not injured.
"We are trying to establish exactly what happened and I would appeal to anyone that may have witnessed the collision to contact police."
Inquiries are continuing.
