FEARS that Joe Riley may have broken his foot in the Sunderland clash last week have thankfully proved unfounded, The Bolton News understands.
The young full-back limped out of the FA Cup third-round tie just before half time and left the Reebok wearing a protective boot.
But scans have shown the damage to be superficial and Riley is due to be given tests this morning to see whether he can rejoin the first team squad, perhaps as soon as Tuesday night’s replay at the Stadium of Light.
Academy graduate Riley has made only two appearances this season, and nine in total for the club.
