A CHIEF bingo caller is up for grabs in an auction as part of a cancer care charity appeal.

Mecca bingo in Bolton launched its support for the Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Great Daffodil Appeal yesterday.

As part of the appeal, Mecca will hold a charity auction and is encouraging its customers to purchase the charity’s yellow daffodil pin throughout March.

Main stage caller Tom Henderson will be auctioned off as one of the top prizes and the lucky bidder will win an hour of his time to help around the house.

The domestic chores are to be specified by the winner, but Mr Henderson could offer anything from a hand with the laundry to digging the garden.

Will Clarke, membership manager at the Ormrod Street hall, will also be auctioned off as a date to a lucky customer. Bids are now open and the auction will be held in three weeks time.

Mike Sime, area manager for Mecca in the North West, said: “Our teams are very much looking forward to once again raising as much money as possible for the Great Daffodil Appeal. I’m sure our caring customers will be behind us, as they always are.”

The Great Daffodil Appeal, which runs throughout March, is Marie Curie’s biggest fundraising campaign to help provide more free nursing care for people with a terminal illness, either in their own home or one of the charity’s nine hospices.

Bolton Wanderers stars, including Stuart Holden and Chung-Yong Lee, are also on board with the campaign and are encouraging people in Bolton to wear the daffodil badges.

Last year, the Bolton News launched a campaign to raise more than £200,000 for the charity.

The whole community got behind our campaign and hit the cash target in just 15 months.
