ALL-rounders Kyle Hogg and Wayne White fashioned an impressive Lancashire recovery with the bat during the latter stages of yesterday’s opening day of their three-day friendly against Yorkshire at Headingley.

The pair came together before tea with the score at 133-7, having seen their side lose six wickets for 77 after lunch.

Hogg, who starred with a 50 and five wickets during Lancashire’s Championship win at Headingley on the way to the title in 2011, enjoyed his return to Leeds as the visitors closed on 269-7 from 87 overs.

Both he and White hit four sixes against the spinners, straight down the ground and over mid-wicket, during a partnership of 136 inside 38 overs.

Hogg finished the day unbeaten on 69 and White not out on 62. Ironically, neither are sure of their places for next week’s LV= County Championship Division Two clash with Kent at Emirates Old Trafford because England spearhead Jimmy Anderson has been made available.

While Lancashire rested the likes of Simon Katich, Ashwell Prince and Glen Chapple, Yorkshire opted to field a full-strength team on the back of their Championship Division One defeat to Sussex last week.

England trio Joe Root, Tim Bresnan and Jonny Bairstow were all named in a 13-man team for a match which will see both sides rotate players on and off throughout the three days.

Bresnan handed England a timely boost by bowling 10 overs on his return to action following right elbow surgery in February.

He removed Bolton’s Karl Brown for an encouraging 32, caught at slip, on the way to figures of 1-16. Stephen Moore shouldered arms to Jack Brooks and was bowled for eight, while Tom Smith was trapped lbw for 24 by Liam Plunkett.

Brooks and Plunkett both finished with two wickets apiece.
