A LANDMARK Bolton office is now full.

Gordon Moon Properties said the last remaining space at its 120 Bark Street office development had just been taken by the Post Office.

The Bolton developer said the 60,000 sq ft commercial office space has provided a major boost to the town’s economy, bringing up to 800 jobs into the town centre.

It is also home to Asons Solicitors, Regus serviced offices and Keoghs Solicitors, which has two other Bolton offices in Lostock and at the Reebok Stadium.

120 Bark Street is the highest specification office in Bolton town centre. The Post Office has taken the final 12,000 square feet of space remaining at the multi-million pound development.

James Gordon, of Gordon Moon Properties, said: “Demand for high-quality office space in the town centre is on the increase and filling Bark Street with high-end occupiers shows the attraction of Bolton to the professional office market.

“This is important as it will be the catalyst for improvements to the high street and leisure offering in the town centre, keeping people there rather than doing their shopping and business elsewhere.”

Gordon Moon Properties, which recently marked its 50th anniversary, has a number of important Bolton buildings within its portfolio.

It is currently in talks with Bolton Council about future development opportunities.

Mr Gordon added: “We are committed to Bolton and keen to invest in the town as we have with Bark Street and other properties.

“We have purposefully targeted businesses which already have a strong heritage in Bolton, or are growing companies looking to inject capital.”

The Post Office staff at Bark Street will be office-based administrative staff rather than retail, mail counter or delivery workers. No further details have been released yet.

Keith Davies, Bolton Council’s director of development and regeneration, said: “This is good news. It demonstrates that there is a level of demand for grade-A office accommodation in Bolton town centre.

“We are working with developers and potential occupiers to continue the growth of this type of office development. It is an important part of our town centre strategy as we know that the more office workers we can attract the better it is for our town centre economy.”

The news follows a recent report which suggested Bolton could become the office hub for the northern side of Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Planning and Housing Commission studied the region’s eight main town centres and produced an action plan in the wake of the rise of online retail and out-of-town developments.

It suggested Bolton town centre should become the focus for office and commercial development for northern Greater Manchester because of its strong transport links and university and colleges, which are a source of skilled labour.

It also said Bolton’s shops should be focused on a smaller area around the market and town centre, and called for new town centre housing.
