A CAMPAIGN to save lives by teaching essential first-aid skills is heading to Bury.

St John Ambulance is running its third annual Save A Life September campaign to raise awareness of the importance of first-aid.

The charity will give free first-aid demonstrations in Bury to show people how to save a life using five easy techniques.

A free pocket-sized first aid guide will also be given out to carry in case of an emergency.

The first demonstration will take place from 9am to 4pm on Saturday at Bury Market.

Further demonstrations will be held on Saturday, September 14 on the bandstand in Radcliffe town centre; on Saturday, September 21 at the community hall in Ainsworth; and on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, Sept-ember 28 at the Mill Gate shopping centre.

Over the past two years, St John Ambulance has held more than 400 first-aid demonstrations and distributed 200,000 free first-aid guides as part of the initiative.

They hope to reach even more people this year through the campaign.

Heather Arrowsmith, regional director for St John Ambulance in the North West, said: “Learning first-aid is one of the single most important things you can do in your life. You never know when you may need it — at work, at home, in school, playing sport — you just don’t know.

“With basic first-aid skills, anyone can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved, and what could be more important than saving someone’s life?

“By holding first-aid demonstrations across the country, we want to reach as many people as possible, so that more people are equipped with the skills to save a life.”
