A TEENAGER'S toe was cut off when he was pinned to the wall by a car after the driver lost control on a bend, a court heard.

Shocked witnesses ran to help the 16-year-old at the scene in Bolton Road, Atherton, who was screaming in agony after the Vauxhall Vectra hit him.

A jury heard that a witness alleged seeing Nizamuddin Patel, the driver of the Vectra, driving dangerously from Bolton town centre to the scene.

The 35-year-old, of Saltwood Grove, Bolton, had been on trial at Liverpool Crown Court for dangerous driving, which he denied.

But the trial collapsed because of administrative reasons.

He now faces a retrial on February 17 next year.

Henry Riding, prosecuting, had told the court the accident happened on November 22, last year.

He said a driver had set off from his home in Bury at 6.30am that day to get to work and his journey took him along the A579 through Bolton town centre towards Atherton.

As he drove along Derby Street, the Vectra overtook him at about 40mph in the 30mph area, which took him by surprise as it allegedly “came out of nowhere”.

A short time later the driver rounded the bend and saw the Vectra was sideways on and had been hit by a car coming in the opposite direction.

The Vectra had careered on to the nearside pavement and hit a teenage boy pedestrian, claimed Mr Riding.

The boy had a big toe severed in the crash.

A woman who rushed to help thought initially he had a false leg before realising it was his bone.

Patel told police he had been blinded by the lights of the car behind him.

Mr Riding told the jury that experts were unable to say how fast Patel had been travelling at the time of the crash.

Patel has been bailed.
