TELEVISION quiz ace Anne Hegerty showed her expertise when she became the official Brain of Bolton for a second time.

Anne Hegerty, one of the stars of the ITV1 show The Chase, beat 35 of Bolton’s finest minds to win the competition, 18 months after her first triumph.

She qualified for the event, held at Astley Bridge Conservative Club, by being one of the 35 quizzers who answered the most questions correctly during the Bolton Premier Quiz League’s regular season.

Television viewers know Anne, who is affectionately nicknamed “the Governess” and “frosty drawers” by Chase host Bradley Walsh, as one of the four expert “chasers” on the popular teatime programme.

But she is better known by local quizzers as a member of The Albert team in Horwich, for whom she plays on Monday nights.

In the Brain of Bolton final she proved her outstanding knowledge by answering questions on subjects ranging from the Hebrew alphabet to the members of Daft Punk.

Anne, who lives Manch-ester, won the title after seeing off tough competition from Derek Heyes, Andy Teale and Steven H in the final round, having earlier also scored the most points in the first part of the quiz.

She said she was delighted to have won for the second time, adding: “There are some extremely good players in the Bolton Premier Quiz League, it’s a really high standard.

“It is also very good practice for when I am on The Chase.”

Anne, as reigning champion, was ineligible to take part in the last Brain of Bolton event earlier this year when former teacher Anne Scott won.

Jenny Ryan, who plays with chaser Anne for the Albert team, won the title the year before — making it four successive seasons in which women have triumphed.

League chairman Peter Greenwood said: “Once again it was a great night.

“There was an excellent turnout and as usual the standard of answering was incredibly high and congratulations to Anne, especially as it was the second time she has won the title.”
