BOLTON Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman has landed young Cardiff striker Joe Mason on loan at the second attempt.

The 22-year-old, who will stay with the Whites until January 5, had originally agreed a switch to the Reebok a fortnight ago, but the deal collapsed after Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay recalled the front man just 24 hours after he put pen to paper.

Freedman has kept Mason on his radar after a summer pursuit of the Republic of Ireland under-21 forward.

Mason helped the Bluebirds to the Championship title and promotion last season and was their Young Player of the Year in 2011-12, scoring in the League Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley.

He will join fellow Cardiff loanee Kevin McNaughton in Freedman's squad and, subject to international clearance, should be available for the weekend trip to Middlesbrough.

Keep in touch with The Bolton News website for any more developments before the loan deadline at 5pm tomorrow.
