A MAN beat up his brother after finding out that he was having an affair with his ex-girlfriend.
James Leonard, from Turton Court, Bolton, barged into a lovenest in Lincoln Road, Blackpool, and confronted the couple, before battering his brother, Michael, and his ex-girlfriend.
Leonard, a 32-year-old care worker, pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault but was found guilty after a trial at Blackpool Magistrates Court.
He was sentenced to do 200 hours unpaid work, put on one year’s supervision, and ordered to pay compensation of £50 to both victims plus £100 costs with £20 victims’ surcharge.
Magistrates also gave him a 12-month restraining order with a condition not to contact either victim.
Coleen Gallagher, defending, said that the circumstances arose when Leonard realised his ex- girlfriend and brother were in a relationship.
Ms Gallagher added: "He was hurt and angry and reacted badly. Since the trial he has received numerous messages from his brother, which can only be described as blatant and boasting in nature. He insists on contacting my client and antagonising him."
Leonard, the eldest of seven children, had taken on the job of full-time carer for a disabled brother after his mother died about three years ago.
