RADCLIFFE’S Christmas tree is no more after strong winds blew it over, snapping it in two places.
The tree was damaged by the severe weather this morning and was put into a chipper and shredded in the town centre after nothing could be done to repair it.
Winds lifted the tree from its bracket, snapping it cleanly both at its base and six feet from its top.
A spokesperson for Bury Council said officers were currently sourcing another tree which will be put up tomorrow morning, weather permitting.
The lights were taken off the tree and will be replaced when the tree is reerected.
Elsewhere in Radcliffe, inspectors are currently assessing structural damage caused to the swimming pool and fitness suite in Green Street, which remains closed.
